April 2023 Championship Season

There was a great turnout to the April championship round, maybe it was because they love the undercover venue and everything it offers or maybe its because of the upcoming Victorian titles being held at Geelong for the first time in many years and drivers want some track time or it could be both! anyway it was fantastic to see the pits buzzing with drivers.

Now onto the all important racing.

1/12 Stock

It was great to see the resurgence of 1/12 scale at club level and they really do suit the technical track layout, the corner speed is incredible to watch. Andy Cooke is doing as much track time as possible as he is preparing himself for the 1/12 worlds in December in the US , his car was dialled and he had no issues and took wins from all 4 rounds. Father & son Sims were hot on Cookes tail and it was son Carter that beat dad Paul in a closely contested 2 place.

1st - Andy Cooke

2nd - Carter Sims

3rd - Paul Sims

Tamiya

Scott (Scoot Scoot) Rutherford drove flawlessly and dominated from go taking wins from all 4 rounds including TQ. Matt drove well in 2nd and Paul in 3rd

1st - Scott Rutherford

2nd -Matt Durbidge

3rd-Paul Iverson

Kyosho

The Kyosho class has continued to surprise us and grow in popularity so much so that we have had to split it up into: Juniors, Novice and Pro. The racing is very close in each class as it comes down to nerve and concentration.

Juniors

Its great to see the juniors race, the thrill and excitement in there eyes, the innocent joys. It was brothers Max and Harry only this time around and both drove very well with 2 1st places and 2 2nd places each so it went down to the tie breaker where younger brother Max taking the win.

1st- Max Boxer

2nd- Harry Boxer

3rd-

Novice

Young gun driver Jaxon Durbidge self promoted himself from the junior class to race against the Novice guys and showed his skills by taking wins in the first 3 rounds and then decided to sit out the last knowing that he had already won the day and also preserve his wheels. Scoot Scoots father, David, drove really well to bring in 2nd while another young star Chalie came in 3rd with his maiden outing, what a stellar performance.

1st - Jaxon Durbidge

2nd - David Rutherford

3rd - Charlie Wilkin

Pro

It was the first outing for Scott Rawlings in the Pro class, he is no stranger from podium finishes in the premier classes and his skill and experience showed by taking 3 wins but had a major hit in the last round and saw him retire. Roger Fong continued his dominance coming in 2nd and there was a tie for 3rd between Paul and Scoot Scoot where Paul won by less than 3 seconds over 42 laps on the countback.

1st - Scott Rawlings

2nd - Roger Fong

3rd - Paul Boxer

TCR FWD

Shane Rickets found a good setup from the get go and was hard to catch taking the first 3 rounds and taking the day, Nic finally found a setup and pace in the final round and took the fourth. Grant had solid pace for the first 2 rounds but experienced issues for the last 2 where his pace dropped off.

1st - Shane Ricketts

2nd -Nic Michaelides

3rd - Grant Davies

ITSC 21.5

There was a strong field of 11 in this class but it was Joel Ricketts that took it to another level and was uncatchable, this is a classis case of practice makes improvements as he spends many hours at the track and its paying off. Paul Evans and Paul Boxer had a good battle for 2nd with only 1 point separating them in the end.

1st- Joel Ricketts

2nd- Paul Boxer

3rd- Paul Evans

ITSC 13.5

Another solid showing the the 13.5 guys as 10 top drivers took to the track for honors. Steve Vakalis Xpress was dialled from the get go and was a lap ahead from 2nd place for the first 2 rounds but unfortunately had an incident which caused his chassis to crack in the third round and had to retire for the last 2 . Scott Rawlings drove well and took the last 2 rounds and the overall win while Jamie O'Brian (Gus) came in 3rd.

1st-Scott Rawlings

2nd-Steve Vakalis
