GRCR Racing Classes

Vintage Trans-Am (VTA)

For those who love classic muscle cars, fire-breathing GTs and old-school touring cars, VTA is the class for you. Scale-accurate bodies, wide wheels and a 1450g weight limit means plastic and carbon chassis of all vintages can be competitive in VTA. In addition to touring car chassis, Kyosho Fazers with VTA bodies and tires are also eligible for this class.

 

Chassis 

Any Four-wheel drive, 190mm touring chassis with independent suspension on all four wheels.
Each driven wheel must have a flexible joint, eg: dog bone/s or universal joint/s in its drive shaft.

  • Drive train and suspension design is free from restriction.

  • Flat Pan (1/12th and 1/10th Track Style) chassis are not allowed.

  • The Chassis must not be shaped to gain an aerodynamic advantage In principle the underside of the chassis must be flat and parallel to the ground along the entire length of the body-shell.

  • Aerodynamic shaped parts (splitters / diffuses /tunnels/etc)are NOT be fitted to the chassis

 

OR Kyosho Fazer Mk.2 Ready To Run 4WD models.

​Motor & Electronics

  • 190mm TC Chassis:

    • Only BRCA and ROAR approved 21.5T, fixed timing and adjustable timed motors.

    • The motor should be run out of the box with No Modifications.

    • Only an ESC without dynamic timing, or with a Blinky mode.

  • Kyosho Fazer Chassis

    • As per Kyosho Fazer Regulations (see here)

 

Tyres

  • Tyre cleaner is permitted.

  • Tyre warmers are permitted.

  • Tyre additive is permitted.

  • Double-stuffing of inserts is NOT permitted.

 

In order to make it easier to buy tyres for VTA, GRCR has widened the range
of eligible VTA wheels and tyres to the following;

HPI D Compound VTA tyres

  • Vintage Racing Tire #4793 (front) and #4797 (rear)

  • Vintage Slick Racing Tire #4791 (front) and #4792 (rear)

  • Vintage Performance Tire #102993 (front) and #102994 (rear)

  • Mounted an any HPI VTA Wheels

  • Supplied insert must be used

 

Protoform pre-mounted VTA tyres

  • VTA Front Tires (26mm) Mounted #10140 17 (white) OR 10140 18 (black)

  • VTA Rear Tires (31mm) Mounted #10139 17 (white) OR 10139 18 (black)

 

Gravity pre-mounted VTA tyres (sets of 4)

  • G-Spec VTA Tyres #GRC145B (black)

  • G-Spec VTA Tyres #GRC145W (white)

 

Tamiya tyres

  • 26mm Slick Tyres #50454 (front or rear) on any Tamiya 26mm two-piece rim

  • Tamiya #53113 insert must be used for #50454

  • 31mm Slick Tyres #50547 (rear) on any Tamiya 31mm two-piece rim

  • Supplied insert must be used for #50547

Battery

  • Any two (2) cell, hard-cased 7.4volt Lipo pack. As per the approved listed on the ROAR or EFRA websites.

 

Body Shell

Pre-1993 Vintage Trans Am, GT and Touring Cars.

  • Bodies should be scale-accurate representations of actual cars that raced in period.

  • LMP, Group 6/C Sportscar and Can-Am bodies are NOT permitted

  • This is a fun category, so we encourage scale accuracy of bodies and paintwork!

 

Body Mods

  • Deck lids and spoilers as used on the actual car.

  • No additional skirts, raised/extended wings or air-controlled surfaces are permitted.

  • Body must be trimmed to trim lines.

  • Full rear bumpers required. If unsure check before racing.

Gearing

  • 190mm TC Chassis: Open – No restrictions.

  • Kyosho Fazer Chassis:  As per Kyosho Fazer Regulations (see here)

 

Hop-Ups

  • 190mm TC Chassis: Any hop up available from any manufacturer.

  • Kyosho Fazer Chassis:  As per Kyosho Fazer Regulations (see here)

Weight

  • 190mm TC Chassis: Minimum 1450 grams ready to run including transponder.
